Hello Scissorboy Fans!
It’s Maciek, Scissorboy’s marketing director. Scissorboy, aka Grant asked me to put together a quick blog post on how to change your Facebook home page back to show live Status Updates, which update live in real time, vs the new News Feed option which does not. We thought some of you might find this little trick useful, as it has been messing up how you view status updates on your Profiles.

There are 2 things which are happening:

1. First, the News Feed tab is your landing tab when you login to your HOME page. Problem is that the Facebook News Feed only updates things which Facebook finds to be relevant, NOT you the user. And when you alternate between the News feed and the Live Feed (which prior to this updated live in real time) nothing updates, there is nothing live about it. In fact, it only updates a maximum of 250 of your friends updates based on some popularity metrics that Facebook writes about on the FACEBOOK BLOG There is actually a way to change this setting to allow all your friends updates to be taken into consideration (up to 5000 for those who have more than 250 friends), but more on that later. Either way, there is no way to currently go around the metrics described on the blog and so the News Feed does not show live status updates.

2. They separated any Status Update with a link, video, or post with an attachment and send them to the Newsfeed. Anytime you post a link with your status updates, it now goes to the NewsFeed tab, rather than the Status Updates tab. Prior to this, it was all in the Status Update tab and it was all live. At this time I do not know of any way to rectify this, but as soon as I do, I will post it to the blog.

If you would like to omit the News Feed and change your Facebook Home Page back to show Live Status Updates, here are the basics steps to take as well as a quick video showing the process thanks to Andrew Mager @ CNET:

1. Login to you Facebook Profile and click on HOME. You will notice that News Feed is your landing tab here.
2. Look at the left handed column and find the tab labeled “Status Updates”. If you do not find this tab, click on MORE at the bottom of the tab.
3. Locate “Status Updates” and click on the tab.
4. Click on the “Status Updates” Tab and simply drag it to the top.

Log out and log back in and you should now see “Status Updates” as your landing tab.

Here is a video of how to do this:
