Dining for Change is the annual fundraiser initiative organized by The Professional Beauty Association (PBA) and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) and it is held twice a year. PBA/NCA have announced October as the ‘Dining for Change’ Month.

During this event all beauty professionals are invited to network, share, enjoy each others company over a meal and raise money for a good cause. In the past, salon and spa professionals have united to host dinners and/or social gatherings to raise money during March and October which are known as Dining for Change months.

All the Dining for Change contributions go to support the work of CUT IT OUT, and the PBA – NCA Disaster Relief Fund. So you end up working for two worthy causes by organizing an event like this.

Dining for Change is based on a shared giving model of philanthropy. Participants come together to connect, network and share a meal. Each guest makes a small, voluntary donation to the designated charities (i.e. $25) and combine their donations with others from across the country to elevate the collective giving of all.

Getting involved with Dining for Change is easy! The registration process along with the rules for donations and other terms & conditions can be found here – probeauty.org/dining-for-change

Be-Cause Charity Kick-Off Gala

Be-Cause, founded by Millennium Salon Software, is a movement to unite the industry and pay recognition to individuals who go above and beyond the call of duty. The first Be-Cause charity event will be held in NYC, the day before the IBS Show, on March 5, 2011.

All proceeds raised will go to Beauty Changes Lives (BCL), an organization focused on raising funds for scholarship programs to benefit new students entering the beauty industry and provide advanced education programs for licensed beauty professionals.

The Be-Cause is a challenge of self-perseverance to be everything you can and want to be. The beauty industry is made up of amazing people who are stepping outside of the norm and doing more. Basically “BEING” is about being something that is true to who you are and has motivated you to be successful.

If you had to choose 1 word (your “be” word) what would it be? All of our interviewees have chosen a word that embodies their philosophy and it’s reminding the rest of the industry that they have one too. It is much easier to remember who you are and where you are going if you hold on to this word.

Be-Cause Gala 2011

If you’ll be in the New York City area on March 5, make sure you’re attending the Be-Cause Gala. It’s a great opportunity to support an amazing cause and network with top stylists like Ted Gibson and Tabatha Coffey.
