Brig Van Osten won Shear Genius Season 3 on Wednesday night. The orange-haired celebrity stylist from Simi Valley, Calif. edged past Janine Jarman and Matthew Morris who finished second and third respectively.

Shear Genius Season 3 Episode 10 was aired on April 7th, 2010 on Bravo. The title of this episode was “Who Will Prove to Be Shear Genius?” In this episode of Shear Genius, the final three competitors had to style six models for a fashion show.

Brig was the dark horse amongst the three competitors on Bravo’s reality show. Janine was favorite amongst the audience while Matthew was Judge Jonathan Antin’s golden boy. Matthew also had support from Camila Alves and was expected to win Shear Genius Season 3.

Shear Genius 3 has been dominated by Matthew and Janine as they have consistently kept winning the challenges. However, since the last few weeks Janine has been sliding and Brig has been catching up. Even in the final episode, Matthew won the Shortcut Challenge while Brig won the Elimination Challenge.

The final episode of Shear Genius Season 3 featured fashion designer Henry Duarte. He teamed up with the final three stylists for their biggest challenge. This episode saw a collection of models that featured laminated hair in a striking array of colors.

Linda Wells, Editor in Chief of Allure magazine was on the panel to judge Shear Genius. Her insight on runway hair helped Brig Van Osten to win Shear Genius 3, specially after Jonathan Antin had criticized it. Brig’s futuristic looks earned her the big cash prize at the end.

Shear Genius Season 3 was truly exciting and memorable. Many congratulations to Brig for winning the ultimate $100,000 prize and proving to be the best amongst the 12 competing stylists.

Shear Genius Season 3 has already been exciting so far. The judges made Bravo’s reality show even more exciting this week by not sending anyone home this time around.

There are four stylists left now, Brig, Matthew, Janine and Jon. All of them were safe after Episode 8 of Shear Genius Season 3.

When these remaining stylists arrived in the salon, they learned that other competitors must select a tool, a style and an inspiration for them to use on their model. This was their task for the Shortcut Challenge, which was judged by celebrity stylist Mark Townsend.

For the Elimination Challenge, the stylists are charged with updating hairstyles from classic Hollywood movies for an editorial-style photo shoot. This challenge was judged by Allure’s Editor in Chief Linda Wells.

After judging everyone’s styles, Matthew was declared as the winner. The Judges said that Matthew was able to successfully modernize a very old-fashioned look, while keeping it just as sexy.

During Episode 8 of Shear Genius 3, Brig and Jon were the bottom two in the Elimination Challenge. Ideally, one of them had to be eliminated from the show. However, both of them managed to hold their places as no eliminations were made.

The judges didn’t send anyone home this time around, but should they have? You be the judge! Give your views about the judges decision here: www.bravotv.com/shear-genius

Shear Genius Season 3 said good bye to Brian Buterbaugh this week. He was eliminated after failing to impress the judges with his style for the Elimination Challenge.

The Short Cut Challenge for Episode 7 of Shear Genius 3 was interesting. All the stylists were asked to do a formal hairstyle for 5 high school seniors that are getting ready for their last formals in high school. It seemed easy at first, but it had a hitch – all the models were African American girls. The guest judge was celebrity stylist Kimberly Kimble.

The judges appreciated Brian’s style for the Short Cut Challenge. They said it was a great finish, but guest judge Kimberly Kimble just didn’t think the pin curls were age-appropriate.

The Elimination Challenge required all the stylists to give new looks to the VIP guests of the guest judge, Estelle. The Grammy-winning singer wanted her guests to adopt the looks from the 1960’s and 1970’s for a party which was being hosted to listen to her new album – Freak.

The stylists were given 90 minutes before their looks were judged on the red carpet. The judges laid emphasis on creativity, technical skills, and how well the stylists interpreted the theme of the album into the hair.

Janine won the Elimination Challenge while Brian was sent home for overworking on the look and forgetting the hair. His model looked like Edie Sedgewick and the judges termed Brian’s look as a heroin addict who hasn’t gotten colored in eight months.

Brian has established himself as a stylist to some of the biggest names in television, film, and music including Bjork, Keri Russell, Matthew Fox, Hayden Panettiere and many more. After his elimination from Shear Genius Season 3, he will concentrate on setting up a production company that shoots fashion promotional videos.
